Playing with Special Effects

When frailing, sometimes just messing around with special effects while practicing can help make the sounds more interesting. The first thing to figure out is where the neat effects are. These change from tuning to tuning, but here they are in G:

And then you can just mess with them as you’re messing with the rhythm of frailing.

Here is an idea using the “Shaka-Boom” rhythm but without doing any actual shaka until the end where you use the basic “Boom-Shaka.”

This can be used as an ending for a song:

And this is where I start when limbering up my fingers. Going to C and D chords at the end instead of a G will lead you to doing several songs:
