Going Down the Road Feeling Had
by Mike Moxcey

To the tune of Going Down the Road Feeling Bad

Written in the summer of 2000 during a trip to the Pacific Ocean.  I started thinking about how a vegetarian would like to be fed on "cornbread and beans" and that morphed into "fed me on brown rice and tofu" which I couldn't get a good rhyme to.

1. I met her in the mountains last June.
I met her in the mountains last June.
I was going down the trail when I met this pretty gal
and she took me back home to her commune.

chorus:
I'm going down the road feeling had.
I'm going down the road feeling had.
I'm going down the road feeling had, Lord, Lord.
I ain't gonna be treated this-a-way.

2. She fed me on tofu and brown rice.
She fed me on tofu and brown rice.
She fed me homemade wine then she fed me a line,
she was pretty but she wasn't very nice.
2½. They sold organic vegetables and honey.
They sold organic vegetables and honey.
She said if I could hoe, then I wouldn't have to go
so I signed up and gave them all my money.

3. She said she had an errand in the town.
She said she had an errand in the town.
She'd be back in awhile then she left me with a smile.
I slept alone on the cold, hard ground.
3½. For a week I worked till I was sore.
For a week I worked till I was sore.
I planted little seeds and I pulled some big old weeds
I never saw that girl anymore.

4. I asked their guru for my pay.
He said they didn't do things that a-way.
I asked him for a loan, he just said some weird Zen koan,
I ain't gonna be treated this-a-way.
4½. I packed up my sleeping bag and shoes.
I packed up my sleeping bag and shoes.
I headed down the road, got no place to go,
this boy's got them flat-busted blues..
