1. We put the garden in today it wasn't very hard.
We told the girls to get a tan by working in the yard.
We told them how to hoe the rows and where to plant the seeds
so we'd have lots of squash and lettuce, carrots, corn and peas.
But all the neighbors tell me we've got lots more than we need
They don't know we're mostly growing good old homegrown weed.

chorus:

Smoking homegrown grass gives a man a natural high.
It might not be the very best but it'll get you by.
When the fall is finally here and the garden work is past
we'll sit on the front porch smoking homegrown grass.

2. Now the fall is finally here, the garden work is done.
Looking back on summertime, it was lots of fun.
Cultivating in the rows and watering the seeds.
Picking all the vegetables and leaving all the weed.
Now wintertime is on the way, we'll have to stay at home.
but our supply of homegrown grass will keep us good and stoned.

3. Spring is finally here again we can go out in the yard.
We made it through the wintertime it wasn't very hard.
We'll let the girls hoe all the rows, let them plant the seeds,
while we roll up the final joints of last year's homegrown weed.
Now we know how much to plant, next year won't be a bummer.
We're going to plant enough homegrown to make it through next summer.
